“I am interested to hear your newspaper’s perspective”

Former Polish ambassador to Ukraine Jacek Kluczkowski invited The Day’s editor-in-chief to the Europe-Ukraine Forum
12 November, 12:23

Former Polish ambassador to Ukraine Jacek Kluczkowski, who now holds the position of the Ukrainian issues coordinator at the Institute for East European Studies NGO which organizes the Economic Forum in Krynica, visited The Day’s office on November 10. After an exchange of views on the current situation in Ukraine and Europe with editor-in-chief Larysa Ivshyna, he invited her to take part in the Europe-Ukraine Forum, which will be held in Lodz on January 24-26 for the second time. According to him, the participants of this forum would like to see from the new Polish government a more detailed vision regarding Ukraine, economic cooperation in the region, and the Polish vision of the EU’s policies and the nation’s ability to influence them.

In an exclusive interview with The Day, Kluczkowski explained that it was not by accident that he visited the newspaper’s office during one of his first visits to Ukraine after his mission in Kazakhstan ended. “You probably remember that when I was appointed as the Ambassador of Poland to Ukraine in 2005, one of my first meetings was precisely at your office. I am interested in not only talking to you, but also taking notice of the viewpoint represented by this newspaper. I try to make you heard as much as possible, so that Poland can learn more about your viewpoint and hear it. I think that Poles are interested in this very thing. However, people’s knowledge has become superficial in this age, and if Poland and we the Poles want to be the EU’s Ukrainian experts, we need to delve deeper,” he said.

Kluczkowski shared his impressions of his stint in Kazakhstan and told us about this country’s future transfer of power after the likely resignation of Nursultan Nazarbayev, who wants to be the Kazakh Kemal Ataturk or Deng Xiaoping.

The complete version of the interview with Kluczkowski will be published in The Day’s coming issue.
