Den continues its unprecedented long-lived book project, long ago dubbed a “complement to the Ukrainian ID.” At the Publishers’ Forum in Lviv on September 11, Den’s editor-in-chief will traditionally present the new publications of our creative team. We are not going to divulge all secrets, but we can reveal one right now.

We would like to remind our readers that Den’s office declared 2015 the year of Yaroslav the Wise in commemoration of the thousands anniversary of his reign. The new book, Povernennia v Tsarhorod (“Return to Tsarhorod”), the title for which was coined by our editor-in-chief Larysa Ivshyna, is dedicated to this outstanding anniversary. The narrative is focused not only on Prince Yaroslav’s figure, but also on the breathtaking yet obscure pages of our history of the period. The publication, edited by Larysa Ivshyna, will be jointly prepared by Den’s leading authors (historians, philosophers, literary critics), in particular, Ihor Siundiukov, Volodymyr Rychka, Dmytro Stepovyk, Petro Kraliuk, Volodymyr Panchenko, and others. “Return to Tsarhorod will essentially consolidate Ukrainian identity. And this is exactly what we need most of all now,” says Ivshyna.

We asked our permanent author, doctor of philology, professor at NaUKMA Volodymyr PANCHENKO to share his ideas about Den’s new book, its topicality and concordance to the challenges of our time.

Firstly, noted Dr. Panchenko, the book being a direct sequel of Den’s Library series means a considerable contribution to the important cause of restoring our identity and “excavations” of our spirituality.

Secondly, the peculiarity of Ukraine’s history in the 17th and 18th centuries (as well as earlier) is being caught in a sort of Bermuda Triangle, between Muscovy, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the East. Den’s Library includes two books, dedicated to the first two “vertices” of this triangle, Dvi Rusi (“Two Rus’s”) and Viiny i myr (“Wars and Peace”). Now we are going to have a third one, dedicated to the East. This is an enchanting prospect, an interesting trend in Ukrainian studies. We are to see many secrets revealed, the results of historians’ year-long work in archives.

And thirdly, let us not forget the importance of historical memory. History has always been a battlefield, sometimes rather bloody. To win in the battle, one must have a good command of history. Then we will have chances of winning.

Ivshyna was the first one to announce the long-awaited new publication on her Facebook page, noting that “the first person to order the book will get an autograph and a surprise.” Hardly five minutes had passed when the first booking arrived from Ivshyna’s homeland, Volhynia. Vadym Matviiv, a resident of Lutsk, hurried to prove his faith and devotion to Den’s projects. So, the first lucky reader will certainly get our new book at a reduced price, signed by the editor-in-chief and complete with Den’s corporate postcards by artist Anna Havryliuk.

We immediately contacted Matviiv, who said, “I have known your newspaper from times immemorial. We are sort of fellow townsmen: she is from Lokachi, and I was also born there, even if I’m living in Lutsk now. I have been following Ms. Ivshyna’s publications, so this update caught my attention. I would never miss the opportunity to become the first to get the book and the autograph, that is why I decided to purchase your new book,” shares Matviiv, a lawyer. Our reader tells the following about his relationship with Den: “I am a conservative guy, to a certain extent. I like constancy. So, what appeals to me about Den is that this paper has been providing interesting analytical articles for so many years. This is an interesting media with thorough analysis. Even if your opinions on a certain issue fall out, the depth of the analysis and the author’s (or authors’) arguments deserve respect and inspire confidence. I like trustworthy mass information media, and Den belongs among them.” By the way, our first customer is also planning to visit the book forum in Lviv.

So, starting today, all sincere supporters of Den can place an advance order for Return to Tsarhorod. For them, Den offers special bonuses: the book can be ordered with a considerable discount on the normal store price. Moreover, you take part in a lottery.
