First Bike Tour held in Uzhhorod

Nearly 40 cyclists with their bikes gathered together on May 12 in Uzhhorod to hear the story of “Cycling Uzhhorod.” The tour guide of the event Vitalia Munchak, the organizer of the cycling movement in the regional center of Transcarpathia, told The Day that the purpose of this tour was the need to show to the cyclists the best bicycle parking spots in the city and draw the attention of the local authorities to this problem.

“Today, in our city, where people are actively using bicycles there are nearly 500 bicycle parking spots, most of them are in poor condition, do not meet the standards, and are not quite fit for safe bike parking. You can easily tell where the owner parked his bike by the bicycle frames, scratches and paint on them. We want to attract the attention of entrepreneurs and local authorities to this problem. The tour was planned in such a way that the participants would get a chance to see the best and most original places to park in the city, such as parking spot in a shape of small soccer goal,” said Munchak.

There were even entire families taking the tour. The cyclists did not ride their bikes in the pedestrian zones, instead they pushed them not to violate traffic rules. In the future the organizers hope to have more bike tours held in Uzhhorod.
