Until Nov. 6 visitors to the capital’s Center of Contemporary Art can view a photo exhibit that will be seen by two million people around the world. Thanks to the British Council, the missions to the European Commission, the International Renaissance Foundation, World Bank missions, the French and German cultural centers, and the Swedish and Dutch embassies, the Ukrainian public can see some 200 works by the winners of the annual World Press Photo competition, illustrating the tragic histories of other countries. Many of the photos zoom in on various flash points. World Press Photo is an independent nonprofit organization founded in 1955 in the Netherlands. Its objective is to support talented press photographers around the world and to offer the public an opportunity to view quality pictures from around the globe; in other words, the free circulation of genuine information so that people can see the planet as it really is.
