This tree is the raw material for the production of alternative fuels that can compete with gas. The experience of using such “energy willows” is widespread, especially in Norway, Denmark, Germany, and Poland. In Sweden plantations of this miracle tree cover over 20 hectares. Ukraine only recently began to make use of this solution, with saplings of the “energy willow” being grown in Rivne region. The seedbed was laid by the specialists from the Institute of Agro-Industrial Production. It covers four hectares. They plan to increase the area in the future. These trees grow very fast — five to six meters in just three or four years. Moreover, the region has a favorable climate. This culture can be also cultivated in tougher, swampy soils, in which the area is abundant, experts explain. The seedlings are planned to be sold to other regions. 

At the end of May, 2011, the European Commission plans to consider the issue of granting third countries (including Ukraine) the right to export poultry to the EU. This was reported to The Day by the first deputy chairman of “Myroniv Grain Product” (MGP) Yurii Melnyk. “Generally, Ukraine has good prospects,” he said. In case of the European Commission’s positive decision, Melnyk explained, Ukrainian veterinary and phytosanitary services will receive the right to assign a euronumber to Ukrainian poultry exporting enterprises. He believes that exports may begin by the end of 2011. As Melnyk explained, four poultry farms from MGP may become potential exporters to the EU. He did not name the possible quantities in question, but said that export potential will expand. In 2010, the export supplies of MGP accounted for five percent of the total amount of sales, and in 2011, they expect growth from three to five percent. “We’ll fight for the European, Russian and other markets. In terms of price, we are more interested in the European one, but in terms of entering the market Russia is the most interesting, because there are no duties as in the EU,” he said.
