The Russian Vnesheconombank has announced the tender for a market feasibility study for the Kerch Strait transport crossing construction project, which is to connect Russia and Ukraine. According to the announcement, applications will be accepted February 7 to February 28, 2011. Envelopes with applications will be opened on March 1. Let’s recall that in 2010 Ukraine and Russia resumed talks on the construction of a bridge across the Kerch Strait. At present, cars and passengers are ferried across the strait. 

On February 12 the Fund for the Support of the Development of the Arts will host the “Souvenir de la France” soiree within the framework of the Music-review WEEKEND series. Famous Ukrainian musicians Yurii Kit (piano), Oleksandr Piriiev (cello) and the New Kiev Quartet string quartet will participate. They will play Cesar Franck and Claude Debussy chamber music. The all-Ukrainian premiere of Souvenir de Spa by Francois Cervais for cello and quartet will also be held. 

Representatives of the Abu Dhabi Basic Industries Corporation, GrandMils for Flower & Animal Feed and GrandMils companies have visited the Kherson sea port. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure’s press service, all three companies are specialized grain importers from the Middle East, covering about 60 percent of the local market for these crops. According to the ministry’s press release, the businessmen from the UAE have expressed interest in the export opportunities of Kherson oblast’s agricultural sector, including cooperation in agriculture, grain purchases and leasing land. The grain traders expressed their readiness to buy up to 500,000 tons of grain crops from Ukraine every year. They see the Kherson port as a major link in the transport chain which is to connect local grain producers with the markets of the Middle East.
