Ostroh — Ostroh Academy has turned into a kind of shrine for Ukrainian politicians. The Day has already written that presidential candidates tend to take a sort of exam as they answer the students’ sharp questions, scrutinized by the “examiners.”

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko also paid a visit to the academy the other day. “As the prime minister, I promise to make a contribution to the revival of the Ostroh Academy. I want to stand by and be a reliable partner who can solve all of the university’s burning problems.

“I was so very happy to see students from all over Ukraine, and even students from Canada. After this you understand where you should earn a degree and shape yourself as a personality. It is such a pleasure to feel this spirit of absolute harmony in your academy, despite certain confrontation between regions,” Tymoshenko said trying “sell” her message to the students.

However, frequent visitors to the academy will know that it takes more than mere promises to stop the barrage of students’ questions. The prime minister got her share as well. She was asked not only pragmatic, but also more philosophical questions concerning her worldview. (Tymoshenko’s ill-wishers believe this to be her weakest point.) The academy’s ancient walls or the thorough work she had done on the eve of the visit helped the prime minister, and in the students’ opinion, she did quite well on the exam.
