Ukrainian ballet theater performs in Moscow
The prestigious Russian theater festival “Golden Mask” has recently been opened. The Kyiv Modern Ballet Theater, a young yet well-known Kyiv group, was entrusted with the honorable mission of opening the “Mask Plus,” special international program by the organizers of the fest.
Our performers performed for the Moscow audience their singular one-act ballets “Bolero” and “Rain”. Both were staged in 2007 by Radu Poklitaru, a talented choreographer, who used music by Ravel and Bach alongside with ethnic melodies from all over the world. “In each of his works Poklitaru appears to be diverse, always unpredicted and desperately courageous, although the unique features of his artistic personality and creative choreographer’s style are evident everywhere,” said Yurii Stanishevsky, a well-known critic and the president of the Ukrainian Academy of Dancing, in reference to the creative experiments of the theater’s artistic director.
In the three years of its existence the theater has won the hearts of connoisseurs of modern ballet not only in Ukraine, but also abroad. The group has won the prestigious Kyiv Pectoral Award, and a number of awards at international contests in Bulgaria, Belarus, Italy, Romania, and Russia.
