Klitschko Brothers boost national sprit

Yet we have to find cure-all for domestic problems
16 декабря, 00:00

Two months ago Vitali Klitschko beat Samuel “The Nigerian Nightmare” Peter from Nigeria and told at a news conference that life without victories, including victories over oneself, makes no sense, and that this is true of both an individual and any country. Apparently his younger brother Wladimir adheres to the same philosophy, considering his bout with the US heavyweight Hasim Rahman, whom he knocked down in the seventh round. Two weeks prior to the bout, Wladimir told journalists that Hasim Rahman was apparently the best rival at that stage, that he was glad to have him in the ring, the more so that he was an ex-world champion, who had won his title twice. As it was, Wladimir Klitschko defended his WBO, IBF, and IBO heavyweight titles, proving wrong those who had skeptical views, remembering Wladimir Klitschko losing bouts to Corrie Sanders and Samuel Peter. Nevertheless, several weeks of training in Spain had its result.

This bout was watched even by people who have taken no interest in boxing - not because of caring nothing about sports but because considering this kind of sport somewhat unethical. The reason was simple: hearing about and watching how bad things were getting at home and abroad, almost everyone was happy to see the joy of victory, to know that a fellow Ukrainian was world champion. We almost cried with joy watching Wladimir done the champion’s belt. At that moment he personified Ukraine, which meant that we were part of his victory. We are human, we need some distraction from our daily worries like the world economic and domestic political crises.

We are alive people, and we must improve our mood, which was worsened by the consequences of political-economic crisis, with something kind and encouraging. The level of social pessimism in Ukraine, according to the data of the Research & Branding Group, has dropped to an extremely low level: in November 92 percent Ukrainians said that they considered political situation instable, 89 percent considered the country’s economic situation bad, besides that, 67 percent of respondents were dissatisfied with their private life. In the situation when we are so much discouraged, Ukrainian sportsmen bring up our spirit: at first they did this at the Peking Olympiad, then - at the Paralympic Games, finally our mood was improved by brothers Klitschko. Despite how difficult it is to cope with one’s pessimism, the connoisseurs of people’s souls rephrase a well-known saying “A sound mind in a sound body” into “Body will be healthy if person’s mind is sound,” and consider that the person must be responsible for the state of his/her health. For example, one should think well before watching TV shows about crime (or news in general) at night, one should think well whether to look for anything good in life or emphasize one’s attention on bad things, what to read, what topic to discuss, and to what people to appeal for help. Despite how banal it may sound, much, if not everything, is indeed in our hands, including our victories. Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko take this literally.
