“Words of gratitude to our fathers and grandfathers”

On Oct. 28 President Yushchenko greeted the Ukrainian people on the 61st anniversary of the liberation of Ukraine from the Nazi occupiers. The Ukrainian leader was attending a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier in the Park of Eternal Glory, reports the head of state’s press service. The president directed his greetings to the Ukrainian people and war veterans, expressing sincere gratitude to our fathers and grandfathers who, at the cost of their own lives and inconceivable sufferings, won the right to life and freedom, the report says. The Ukrainian leader underlined that constant attention and care for the defenders of the Ukrainian people and European civilization should not only be the duty of the state but the essential requirement of society in general and every individual in particular.
Taking part in the solemn ceremony were parliamentary speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn, Prime Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov, Kyiv Mayor Oleksandr Omelchenko, and other ministers and members of parliament.
