Ukrainian Peacekeepers Train Iraqi Battalion
Ukrainian peacekeepers have completed the training of the first territorial defense battalion for the new Iraqi Army at their base camp. According to Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, during the weeklong training course the Iraqis learned how to handle weapons, inspect vehicles, and check the documents of suspect individuals, along with local laws. In all, 800 Wasit province residents have undergone training under the supervision of Ukrainian and American instructors and entered active duty. The Iraqi battalion will assist Ukrainian peacekeepers in ensuring peace, order, and security in the zone of responsibility of the Fifth Detached Mechanized Brigade stationed in Wasit province. Another Iraqi battalion is slated to soon undergo training at the same base camp in Al-Qut to assist the Polish peacekeepers in their mission.
