Ukraine Denies Supplying Cornet Missiles to Hussein

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has denied reports that Ukrainian arms traders allegedly supplied antitank Cornet missiles to Iraq. According to Foreign Ministry press service chief Markiyan Lubkivsky, “these reports are unfounded and are based on unconfirmed and biased information.” An article carried in the American Newsweek weekly reads in part that last January Ukrainian arms traders supplied 500 Cornet- E missiles to Baghdad. Mr. Lubkivsky further stressed that “We consider these reports nothing but another attempt to mar the good name of our country using the war in Iraq and volatility in the Middle East and Persian Gulf region.”
