EuroNews To Broadcast In Ukrainian?

The possibility of EuroNews television news broadcasts in the Ukrainian language was among the issues raised during a regular session of the Committee on Parliamentary Cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in Brussels, reports Deutsche Welle. Committee cochairmen Jan Virsma and Borys Tarasiuk have agreed on a joint letter to the European Council and the Council for Cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in which they will seek support at the early stages of EuroNews television news broadcasts in the Ukrainian language on our territory. According to Borys Tarasiuk, this letter will be ready in the immediate future. In addition, during their meeting in Berlin deputies of the European Parliament and Verkhovna Rada discussed ways of simplifying the visa regime for Ukrainians and equipping the Ukrainian border. Deputies of the European Parliament suggested that they should visit Ukraine’s western borders as part of the next session of the committee slated to be held in 2003 in Kyiv. Elizabeth Schredter, European Parliament deputy for Germany, stressed that the EU is willing to provide funding for some border projects in Ukraine. However, the EU cannot afford to foot the bill for outfitting all the perimeter of the Ukrainian border. According to Ms. Schredter, Ukraine should pay its own way.
