Compensation for Terrorist Act
The government of Russia has decided to appropriate 100,000 rubles for each family of the hostages, including foreigners, who died in the Moscow terrorist act, Labor Minister Aleksandr Pochinok told journalists on October 31 after a governmental session. Besides, the victims will be issued an allowance worth up to a total 50,000 rubles and another 10,000 rubles to make up for lost property. The drama took the lives of 119 out of the total 858 people taken hostage. Mr. Pochinok added 50% of payments would be effected by the federal government and another 50% by the Russian Federation’s regions. “Payments are already being made, and I want to express gratitude to Moscow’s government for this prompt action of theirs,” the minister said. As of last Wednesday night, 156 people had received medical treatment in Moscow, with other victims to be taken care of in the nearest future. Mr. Pochinok noted social assistance also includes a complete social rehabilitation course for the victims. Children will be able to vacation together with their adult kin at any health camps of their choice, including Orlyonok (“young eagle”).
