The United States of America has celebrated its 225th anniversary. “The United States has 225 years behind it as a state. Ukraine has over 1000 years as a people,” Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Ukraine Carlos Pascual said on this occasion at the celebration. The ambassador also added that the two peoples have something to learn from each other, which is probably not so typical for the statements of the US representatives.
The reception in the yard of the ambassador’s residence in Pokrovska Street appeared to have a true holiday spirit and was crowded. There was a band which performed the US and Ukrainian national anthems and then entertained the guests with Glenn Miller jazz, a marine honor guard, and the public representing the cream of society: ministers, politicians (including a wide range of opposition representatives), artists, intellectuals, diplomats, etc. And finally there was a beautiful summer night with its informal atmosphere for communication.
