NDSC Financial Security Committee Established
President Leonid Kuchma has approved appointments to an National Defense and Security Council committee on financial security, and related provisions, Interfax-Ukraine reports. It will be headed by NDSC Deputy Secretary Trofym Kovalchuk and among others includes People’s Deputy Viktor Suslov, Verkhovna Rada Finance and Banking Committee Deputy Chairman Ihor Yushko, top officials of other ministries and departments, mainly law enforcement, as well as National Bank representatives.
The document signed by the president establishes that the committee as an advisory and coordinating body with the primary functions of investigating and forecasting developments in the financial and monetary credit sectors, putting forth proposals to address the problems of ensuring Ukraine’s financial security, as well as detecting and investigating threats to financial security and the tendencies of their appearance in conditions of the establishment of the state’s financial and credit policy. The committee has been assigned the task of investigating the activity of government bodies and institutions of local self-government aimed at promoting national security interests in the financial and credit sectors as well as putting forward related proposals and recommendations.
