Aren’t you tired of so many days off?

Serhiy PROKOPENKO, 24, student, Drahomanov State Pedagogical University:

“I believe that such a big number of days off is abnormal. From time to time, of course, you want to take a rest from work, to spend your leisure hours outdoors or in the company of friends. However, if you don’t want to have an empty pocket, you can’t do without working. You just can’t avoid it. Personally, I won’t suffer if we have significantly fewer days off.”

Valentyna HNIDA, 19, student, Music Academy:

“I am not a Kyivan, and owing to the long holidays I got a chance to go home. Besides, when we have so many days off in a row, a lot of my friends come to visit their parents, too. We don’t see each other very often since we all study in different cities, and on these May holidays we have finally got the chance to rub shoulders. But, frankly, such a long vacation is tiring.”

Vasyl SLOBODIANIUK, 60, grocery store director:

“People say, the less the dearer. Once when we celebrated holidays on the days they fell on the days off didn’t drag on, and the joy of celebration, to my mind, was fuller.”

“This new rule according to which the days off are transferred to the next workdays upset our routine, not to mention that we have to find out about the holiday schedule from the media. You just can’t figure out by yourself when to go to work and when to stay home.”

Mykola, 38, construction worker, Vinnytsia oblast:

“To be honest, I have recently come to Kyiv to earn some money in construction. I don’t have such an opportunity in my native oblast anymore. I spent these holidays apart from my family.

“Maybe some people are glad to have such a long rest. But I feel unsettled with all these May vacations. I would gladly go to work instead.”

Liubov PUSHKAR, 49, livestock expert, agricultural cooperative society, Stara Syniava district, Khmelnytsky oblast:

“I am not a city resident, and country work has no holidays. You have to take care of your household both on workdays and weekends. Thus I can’t say that the big number of holidays somehow affect my daily routine. Of course, when I was younger, we always celebrated the May holidays together with friends. Anyway, I recognize them and am used to them. But for the last few years I have been spending all my days off working in my garden plot and in our cooperative society. And my daughter is happy to have so many days off. She has a chance to come home from Kyiv for a long visit and have a rest before finals.”
