Hryhory Omelchenko Warns

03 июля, 00:00

The VR's ad hoc committee of inquiry into the business activities of ranking officials submitted files on the preparation of a murder contract of Hryhory Omelchenko to the General Prosecutor's Office and SBU, July 21.

Among other things, the documents read that an unidentified resident of Kyiv ordered Omelchenko's assassination. Two teams of killers, cold-arms experts, await instructions in Russia. The contract job is valued at $500,000.

In an interview with JSC, Mr. Omelchenko stated that he has his own information showing his life is in actual danger, that his lifestyle, daily schedule, and routes are being closely followed by “workers and officers of the SBU.” “Assuming that the SBU does things like that, one can only wonder if we have the Security or Insecurity Service, as the President said once,” Hryhory Omelchenko added.

He also noted that he has material evidence of the SBU's involvement in the preparation of an attempt on his life, namely an audio cassette and a roll of film illustrating a testimony made by a secret police officer dispatched for the job. And the man has, allegedly, agreed to testify before the General Prosecutor on condition of personal immunity.

The newspaper Holos Ukrainy carried an article about the situation and a photo showing the President with gun in hand. The article says several SBU officers have been assigned to the Presidential Administration to carry out “special missions.” These officers, allegedly, act under the auspices of the Domestic Policy Coordinating Council, and are commanded by Oleksandr Volkov, chief of the President's election staff.

A former SBU officer, Hryhory Omelchenko and analysts attribute preparations for an attempt on his life to his commission's activities, particularly the documents it has made public knowledge, concerning the foreign bank accounts of a number of ranking politicians.

In an interview with JSC, Mr. Omelchenko declared that, in case of necessity, the commission will take “adequate steps” with regard to the “customers” and “ideologues” of the attempt being prepared on his life. SBU officials have been warned of this, he added: “We have warned SBU head Leonid Derkach and his deputies that, if as little as a hair is knocked off the head of a single member of the committee of inquiry or members of his family, we will not look for the executor. We are professionals. We will take adequate steps within 24 hours.”
