1708: Russian troops under Aleksandr Menshikov’s command seize Baturyn, the capital of the Ukrainian Hetman State, killing most of the fortress inhabitants and defenders.

1918: Kyiv hosts a secret meeting of the Ukrainian National Association that establishes Ukrainian National Republic’s Directory as the highest body of state authority.

1918: In Lviv, the Ukrainian National Council adopts an interim fundamental law whereby the newly established Ukrainian state formation is designated as the West Ukrainian People’s Republic (ZUNR).

1918: Soviet Russia’s Central Executive Committee and Sovnarkom resolve to abolish the Treaty of Brest in the aftermath of Germany’s fiasco in WW I.

1943: Troops of the First Ukrainian Front launch Operation Kyiv, frustrating the Wehrmacht scheme to retrieve Kyiv.

2004: Ukraine’s Central Election Committee adopts regulations concerning televised debates between Viktor Yushchenko and Viktor Yanukovych.
