1918: Directory-headed revolt against Hetman Pavlo Skoropadsky begins.
1919: The UNR’s State Council, jointly with the Directory, appoints Symon Petliura as the national republic’s commander-in-chief.
1939: Kyiv hosts the third extraordinary session of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR that makes Western Ukraine part of the Ukrainian SSR.
1945: The Ukrainian Free Academy of Sciences is established in [West] Germany.
1946: The Soviet of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR adopts the new Ukrainian orthography rules.
1988: Buran remains the only Soviet Shuttle-like spacecraft to have accomplished one unmanned flight, orbiting Earth twice [Buran program will be cancelled in 1993].
2004: Ukraine’s National Channel One broadcasts Yushchenko vs. Yanukovych presidential debate.
