The opening ceremony took place on November 2 on The Day of the famous artist’s death anniversary. The monument was designed by Uzhhorod sculptor Mykhailo Kolodko. The sculpture shows the artist driving his GAZ-67. This was the car that took Hliuk to the mountains where he painted his masterpieces.
This year marked 100 years since the birth of Havrylo Hliuk. He painted genre paintings, portraits, and landscapes, he also depicted people working in the field. Art critics consider the painting Lumbermen on Guard for Peace (created in 1950) one of Hliuk’s best art works. Hliuk’s contemporaries have noted it as tastefully conceived and perfectly executed piece of art. There is no trace of artificial nature, instead the figures of lumbermen are lit with sunshine – bright and monumental.
