Righteous among the Nations have been awarded in Lviv
The awarding ceremony took place at the Lviv History Museum with the participation of Israel’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine Reuven Din El’. The title of the Righteous among the Nations has been posthumously conferred on three Lviv families: Mykola and Mykhailyna Buks, Danylo and Maria Romaniuk, Omelian and Yustyna Fisiuk. It will be recalled that Israel confers the title “Righteous among the Nations” as a sign of deep gratitude for helping Israeli people in the period of the World War II. Overall, according to Israeli version, there are 24,356 Righteous among the Nations in 46 countries of the world. There are 2,402 such people in Ukraine, and only Poland, Netherlands, and France have more owners of this title (6,339; 5,204; and 3,513 respectively). This unique project was launched in 1963 by Yad Vashem, the National Memorial of the Catastrophe (Holocaust) and Heroism located in Jerusalem on the Mount of Remembrance.
