38 parades, 46 designers, some 200 accredited media and... “STOP Putin”
Ukrainian fashion designers prepared collections of fall-winter 2014-15 under difficult economic and political conditions. Still, the conditions became even more complicated by the time of the collections’ presentation.
On March 16, when Crimea lived through what the Kremlin and some inhabitants of the peninsula called a “referendum,” Olha Tymkova-Liakhovska, Iryna Dil, Olena Dats, Oleksii Zalevsky, and Yulia Aisina were closing the third day of the 34th Ukrainian Fashion Week (UFW). Organizers and participants of the 34th UFW held “STOP Putin” event on the podium at 6 p.m. before parading Olena Dats’ collection: speaking live with eight countries, they called on the Russian Federation to stop its aggression and leave Ukraine alone...
“We were all fighting that war. We only returned to our art in hours of truce. We thought that the terrible events on Maidan were the worst we would see. We thought that we would finally begin to build a new country. However, now we say: ‘STOP Putin.’ Stop that man, he brings destruction and evil,” said Olha Navrotska, designer, stylist, photographer, and author of sweatshirts STOP Putin and STOP Regime which went on display at the UFW.
