Kyivites are planting the Heavenly Sotnia Public Garden in a courtyard at 24 Mykhailivska Street, which is located right between Mykhailivska Square and Independence Square. As Yevhenia Kuleba, an initiator of the garden’s creation, told the press, this place had been fenced off by a green construction fence since 2006, slowly turning into a dump. However, people pulled the fence down during the tragic Euromaidan events in February 2014 and used it to bolster the barricades in the main square of the country. Meanwhile, residents of the adjacent houses, having seen this trash-strewn wasteland, have decided to turn this place into a public garden that will be comfortable for both children and adults. They have called it the Heavenly Sotnia Public Garden, created a page on Facebook for it, and organized a collective cleaning-up effort. The initiative has been supported by over a thousand people in total since. For example, people planted a public vegetable garden for children, drew pictures and engaged in other activities there on June 21-22. The initiators plan to hold many more interesting events at the public garden.
