“We must curb the influence of Russian propaganda”
Ukraine’s film agency bans nine Russian films and TV serialsAs part of the ongoing mandatory examination of all the Russian films that want to obtain a license to be shown in Ukraine, the Expert Commission on the Circulation and Demonstration of Films at Ukraine’s State Film Agency has banned nine movies that propagate war and fascism, call for the violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and pose other threats to the national interests of our country. According to the agency’s press service, registration of the following Russian-made films was canceled last Tuesday: A False Army. The Great Scheme of Colonel Pavlenko (directed by A. Grachev, 2009, documentary), Murder Squad Two (directed by S. Vlasov, 2013), A Wintertime Cruise (directed by I. Nurislamov, 2012), The Honor of a Samurai (directed by N. Yakusheva, 2012), Let Me Kiss You Again (directed by Yu. Morozov, 2012), Cop Wars 7 (directed by S. Rayevsky, 2013), A Special Mission (directed by D. Averin, 2012), Cop Wars 4 (directed by E. Abrosimov, 2013), and Simply Jackson (directed by L. Plyaskin, 2012). The Expert Commission has concluded that the abovementioned films are banned from being shown on television, public commercial video networks, and domestic videos on the territory of Ukraine, and three of the aforesaid movies are also banned from being shown in cinema theaters.
“Protecting the national information space is a top priority for the Ukrainian state. We must curb the influence of Russian propaganda on the Ukrainian viewer. At the same time, Ukraine’s Film Agency is not going to reduce the showing in Ukraine of the Russian films that pose no threat to our national interests,” says Pylyp ILLIENKO, Chairman of the State Film Agency of Ukraine.
It will be recalled that it was decided in late July to ban in Ukraine the Russian-made serial White Guard and feature film Poddubny.
