Legnano Saber Fencing Cup is underway in Italy
June 15 through 20 the Italian town of Legnano is hosting Fencing European Championships of Legnano 2012. On Sunday, June 17, Ukrainian saber fencer Olha Kharlan won the gold medal, and two days before saber fencer Andrii Yahidka won the bronze. For Olha Kharlan it is the third gold award in continental championships in individual competition. The athlete has already become the champion of Europe, in 2009 and 2011.
According to the press service of the National Fencing federation of Ukraine, the only worthy rival for our fencer at the Italian Championship was Greek Vassiliki Vougiouka, whom Olha managed to defeat in the final bout with the advantage of only one point (15:14). As for the bronze winner of the championship Andrii Yahidka, he lost to Bolade Apithy (France) and Aleksei Yakimenko (Russia). Our combined team consists of the best 24 athletes, including Olena Kryvytska, Olena Khromova, Kateryna Chentsova, and men – Dmytro Boiko, Rostyslav Hertsy, and Maksym Khvorost.
