Three days with Don Quixote
The National Museum of Literature of Ukraine launches the Second continuous reading of the famous novel in Ukrainian and Spanish
These readings take place in more than 15 countries every year. It is the second time this event is held in Ukraine. The reading of the best work of literature from the Spanish Golden Age The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, which has started on April 25, will and end at 10 a.m. on April 27.
Anyone may participate and try out their public reading skills. The organizers of the action, the Embassy of Spain in Ukraine and the Museum of Literature have promised a program full of other cultural events besides the reading itself: a conference “Ukrainian Don Quixote” with the participation of president of Ukrainian Association of Hispanists Oleksandr Pronkevych, an exhibit of the famous Spanish artist Antoni Miro “The power of the Imagination,” an exhibit of original illustrations of the 1780 Don Quixote edition, flamenco master classes, a presentation of the creations by Kyiv College of Light Industry students majoring in design “Dulcinea’s Dreams,” performances by Sashko Lirnyk, and much more.
“Last year the event gathered more than a thousand admirers of literature, with nearly 600 persons taking part in the public reading of Don Quixote. Among the readers you could find middle school students as well as retirees, which means that this action unites people who differ in age, profession, education, and interests,” says Raisa SENNIKOVA, deputy director for research and education work of the National Museum of Ukrainian Literature.
“The goal of such readings is to help as many people as possible to comprehend this masterpiece more deeply and involve them in active reading of the works of world literature in the original language as well as in Ukrainian.” By the way, people who take part in the reading will have a chance to win a trip for two to Madrid and Alcala de Henares, the hometown of Miguel de Cervantes.
