1708: The Muscovite army commanded by Aleksandr Menshykov wipes out the Hetmanate capital of Baturyn, massacring all the civilians.
1919: The Entente and Austria sign a treaty at the Paris Peace Conference, which records the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and recognizes the claims of Rumania and Czechoslovakia to Bukovyna and Transcarpathia, respectively.
1928: The Taras Shevchenko house-museum is opened in Kyiv.
1993: The Leaders of the religious association White Brotherhood, Yurii Kryvonohov and Maryna Tsvyhun who called herself “Maria Devi Christ, a living God on Earth,” are detained in Kyiv.
2004: On the tenth day – the last one stipulated by the law – the Central Election Commission makes public the results of the first round of the presidential elections in Ukraine: the winner is Viktor Yushchenko who has polled 39.97 percent of votes.
2004: Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych of Ukraine announces that he is prepared for a TV debate with Viktor Yushchenko.
