A contest of instrumental music (piano, strings, wind, percussion, and folk instruments) was held in Kyiv. The nominations were the following: “Performance with an orchestra,” “Solo performance,” “Group performance,” “Orchestral performance,” divided by age. The junior group included participants younger than 12, the middle group had performers of ages 13 to 18, the senior group encompassed ages 19 to 32. State Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (conductor – Mykola Lysenko) took part in “Piano and violin with the orchestra” nomination. The contest was organized by charitable foundation VIVAT ART, National Union of Composers, and National Committee for Music Council / UNESCO, with the support of Ministry of Culture and Kyiv City Administration.

The contest had more than 400 (!) applications submitted from Poland, Belarus, China, Malaysia, the US, and almost every Ukraine’s oblast. The jury was presided over by maestro himself, the famous composer Yevhen Stankovych.

According to one of the organizers, Svitlana Sukhomlynova, president of VIVAT ART foundation, it was “a wonderful competition, which has proved that we have a lot of talented young people!”

The major prize from Yevhen Stankovych was a bronze statuette “Angel’s Touch.” It was awarded to Alina Shevchenko, violinist from Lviv who won the senior group.

Grand Prix in the “Piano with an orchestra” category was awarded to Valentyn Kisilenko (Kyiv).

Grand Prix in the “String instruments” nomination went to Chamber Orchestra of Kirovohrad Music College – these musicians became the competition’s discovery.

The opportunity to perform at various prestigious stages across Ukraine in 2016-17 will be a pleasant bonus to the winners.
