The competition has been recognized as international since 2003. Under-26 pianists from around the world get invited to it. This year, the jury awarded the first prize and the special prize for best performance of the Chinese-Belgian composer Zhang Haofu’s work The Secluded and Silent Moon to Markiian Popil, teencorr.com.ua reports. He was one of the three musicians who got to the finals. By the way, having won prizes at many prestigious music events, Popil is already a seasoned competitor, although the pianist is still a student (he is enrolled in the Lysenko Music Academy of Lviv and the Antwerp Conservatory).

“Great sound, skill, and stability displayed by Popil testify to his exceptional artistic maturity. He won the first prize,” the Belgian La Libre reacted to the Ukrainian’s performance. Reviewers note Popil’s extraordinary artistic maturity and a fantastically high number of major prizes he has already won despite his young age. The talented musician told the press he had started playing music as a five-year-old and came from a family of pianists. He is now living in Antwerp (Belgium) and studies at the Conservatory in the class of Sergei Edelmann.
