Fall in Bukovyna

An exhibit of works by talented painter Petro Yakovenko from Bukovyna, dedicated to his centennial birthday anniversary, was held at the largest exhibition hall of the Oblast Art Museum. Yakovenko left a mark in the fine arts of Bukovyna of the late 19th – early 20th centuries. He worked in the field of easel painting, still life, portrait, and landscape genres. The trends of European art of the early 20th century (post-impressionism) and Ukrainian folk art intertwine in the artist’s works. The exhibit included 30 canvases from the museum’s store and from private collections, which highlight the 40-year-long period of the artist’s career.

The exhibition “The Terrace City in a Green Skirt... Provincial Stories” by Maryna Rybachuk, member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, member of the Ukrainian Art Union Bzh-Art, could also be seen at the Oblast Art Museum. Recently the painter came back from France, where “Plein Air at Temistokl Vyrsta’s” took place. Rybachuk’s artistic tastes are revealed mainly in oil landscapes and still lifes, themed paintings are less common. The exhibit presented 20 works created within the past few years.

Vitalii Shelehin, member of the Chernivtsi regional branch of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, presented his “artistic report” on occasion of his 60th anniversary at the exhibition hall of Vernissage Culture Center. The painter works in various genres of art. Over 60 paintings were presented at the exhibit. Themes of Shelehin’s works are very diverse – from sacred art to fantasy. Myths, legends, history, and fairy tales intertwine in his paintings. The artist portrays human passion, replicates mythical beasts, creates sacred images, reproduces picturesque landscapes in an unconventional form. Shelehin created his own artistic style, his paintings are easily recognized because of the peculiar charisma, which permeates his every work.
