Koktebel Jazz Festival changes its “place of registration”

The coast of the village Zatoka and Akkerman Fortress in Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky will become the new locations of the festival, the organizers of the festival told a press conference. “This year the festival will change to meet new tasks and challenges,” president of the festival Lilia MLYNARYCH stated, “The atmosphere, for which Koktebel Jazz Festival is famous, will be new, but unchangeably interesting and memorable. Apart from the sea, the festival will acquire a new site, the fortress. The main stage of the festival, Nu Jazz Stage, will be located on its territory. At first the Jazz Koktebel Festival was founded with an aim to help the Voloshyn Museum and was created not for the sake of Koktebel, but for the sake of music. In April we started to look for new locations and new ways of developing the festival. Before the festival we will for sure expect guaranties from the government that it will provide security. In this regard it will be even more comfortable in the fortress.”

The Open Stage will be located on the coast of Zatoka Village and this year will be a place for presentation of new music names and projects. The events of the ARTISHOCK festival of contemporary art as well as movie screenings, eco-programs, etc., will take place on the Open Stage.

The third venue from which the history of Koktebel Jazz Festival began 12 years ago will turn into a separate event, Volozhyn Jazz Weekend, which will be held in Kyiv September 19 through 21. Oleksii Kohan will be the curator of the project.

As a reminder, earlier it was reported that Koktebel Jazz Festival 2014 would possibly move to Kyiv, because the organizers said it was impossible to hold the festival in its former place, Crimean Koktebel, because of the annexation of the Crimea.
