“We want to support the south and the east”
The rock band Tin Sontsia starts its tour across Ukraine from Mariupol. Apart from the music, they are bringing the newspaper Den to the servicemenTin Sontsia comes back to concert venues. The band will embark on its spring tour “Ray of Freedom” on March 12 in Mariupol. After that they will visit with concerts Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Odesa, and later head for Chernihiv and Kharkiv. Within the framework of the tour the musicians will present the renewed lineup of the band and present new songs before the launch of their new album. According to the front man of the band Serhii Vasyliuk, the decision to launch the tour namely from the south of Ukraine is not accidental. “We all want to support the south and the east. The people who are living there should feel that they are living in Ukraine and that their cities are of no less importance than Kyiv or Lviv. We want these people to be the first to hear our new songs. Probably, this will make us more united in the future.”
In spite of the complicated situation, the musicians are not afraid to go to Mariupol. They do not get scared so easily after the many-time performances for the servicemen at the front line. “After the liberation of Sloviansk we had a concert on the Karachun Hill near the city,” Serhii Vasyliuk says, “Suddenly a mortar shelling began several hundred meters away from us. A part of the soldiers went to help, the rest stayed to listen to us. I decided not to stop the concert. So, we continued playing to the sounds of shooting. On the other day during our concert in Debaltseve, the air-raid alarm was raised. But we continued to play to boost the morale of the servicemen. After what happened we are not afraid to give a concert in Mariupol.”
Tin Sontsia are frequent guests in the ATO area. Over the past year they have given about 20 concerts here. The musicians frequently perform in front of the servicemen at trainings, in particular, at the bases near Kyiv. They are received differently, but for the most part their concerts are extremely successful, Vasyliuk says.
“A considerable part of our buffs are people who have been developing their patriotic feelings for a long time. Therefore we have enjoyed greater success in volunteer battalions than in regular units. We have been warmly received by the battalions Donbas, Patriots of Ukraine, UNSO, and Azov. In regular forces we have fans too, but there are also people who have never heard our songs. It is gratifying that for the most part they liked our performances. Incidentally, I have been into history for a long time, therefore in Amvrosiivka apart from the concert, I also gave a lecture on the history of relations between Ukraine and Russia over the past thousand years. I told about the most important battles, the politicians who believed in unity with Russia, but later got disappointed in this idea. Therefore our performance was interesting not only to music lovers, but all the patriots of Ukraine,” the musician says.
The musicians are going to take the copies of the newspaper Den with them as a present for the servicemen on the tour. Serhii Vasyliuk is convinced that the newspaper is a must-read in current situation both at the front line, and in the rear.
“My father has always subscribed to the newspaper Den. I am personally interested in it, because there is much to read in fact. The materials will be important for peaceful population and the military. We decided to take copies of the Den newspaper on the tour, so that all people had an opportunity to read high-quality press,” the musician summed up.
