This will be the third instrumental music mini-forum to be organized by the Jazz Kolo, the latter being a project created to support Ukrainian jazz musicians and aimed at uniting musicians and developing Ukrainian improvisation music. Composer and musician Ihor Zakus founded the project and has served as the source of inspiration ever since. This year’s Jazz Drum Kolo will focus on drummers. The show they will present will reveal the wide range of percussion instruments’ capabilities and sounds in different styles of improvisation music as well as show interaction between a dozen of the best Ukrainian drummers who are so dissimilar and interesting.

Let us recall that our time has seen drum rhythms penetrating and getting entrenched in almost the full spectrum of musical genres, ranging from the metal music, which is traditionally associated with rich drum parts, to the popular music. However, drummers are still in greatest demand in live rock bands. As a rule, drummers work especially closely with bass players, creating a rhythm section that sets the general rhythm and rush of a composition. Those drummers who get most fame and respect from their peers are known for their ability to easily switch to any musical style. Often enough, drummers are front men and sources of inspiration for their bands, compose lyrics and music, and sometimes double as backing vocalists.

As noted by the organizers, thanks to the Muzykant company’s support, the mini-festival’s program will include a competition of young drummers, the winners of which will participate in the driving concert as well.
