Between “us” and “me”
The exhibit “Art Twins” was presented at the National Taras Shevchenko MuseumAt the same venue the project “Art Twins” unites four pairs of talented art twins, artists and art critics. General attention is always focused to twins. People seek to reveal all the nuances of likeliness and disparities between their individualities, try to understand their world perception and the mysteries of their inner world. It is especially interesting to compare artwork created by twins. Absolutely naturally, the question arises: can twins cover the path of art in different ways? Curators consider that “the art of creation is always something mysterious, connected with realization of certain personality aspects, and for twins this process of creative work is inseparably connected with a dialog between them, which gives way to something unique.”
Graphic artists Tetiana and Kateryna Ocheredko, sculptors Petro and Andrii Oziumenko and Yehor and Mykyta Zihura, and art critics Olha and Olesia Sobkovych.
The vernissage opened with Petro Oziumenko’s sculpture Saint George, characters of the gospel parable with Gold Vine, beautiful Generous Angel with inexhaustible horn of plenty, an Angel with gold honeycombs and Angel soaring near the paradise tree. Petro’s sacral world is harmoniously combined with Andrii’s mythological images: the audience gets fond of the tender Calypso Nymph and bellicose Equestrian riding a sea horse. The masterfulness of both brothers is amazing, as well as the expressivity and laconism of their images combined with the finest work on the details, use of precious stones, pearls, and guild. Petro and Andrii Oziumenko have taken part in the Grand Sculpture Salon and Triennial of Sculpture, international exhibits. Their works are stored in the private collections of Europe and the US.
Mythological and biblical characters look well in combination with the graphic works by Tetiana Ocheredko: the old-style view on St. Sophia Square in the etching Through Centuries, playing with double imprints in the works Paris and Nurnberg (“Travel” series), linocuts City Adventures and Playful Evening, where strict architecture motifs are colored with light gold birds.
Brothers Yehor and Mykyta Zihura are sculptors who prefer experiments. They take part in the all-Ukrainian Live Stone symposium, the Spring Wind and GogolFest festivals. The bronze Birds in Warm Countries created by Mykyta Zihura evoke the warmest associations with the birds Alkonost and Hamaiun from Slavonic fairytales, whereas romantic sculptures Night and Dawn (executed in the technique of polymeric resin, aerography) reveal their abstract beauty through unhurried silent observation.
The organizers of the exhibit, art critics Olha and Olesia Sobkovych, offered for the audience to analyze independently the subtle, but absolutely evident line of the relations between “us” and “me.”
