“Color accents”
Exhibition of art works by Vadym Korzhenko took place in Kyiv art gallery “Lavra” in late March. It came here from the Beaumanoir Castle in the north of France
Artist Vadym Korzhenko is primarily known as a consummate batik creator (painting on fabric using wax and dye). He was born in 1957 in Lviv, graduated from Lviv State Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts. Korzhenko loves big canvases to have space for his creative imagination. He works mainly with oil and has long become famous abroad for his batik works.
The artist participated in more than 20 art exhibitions in Poland, France, Germany, and the United States. His art works were presented even in the famous French Saint-Etienne at the exhibition “Batik-2005.”
In the pantheon of art batik, apparently, has the place somewhere between the monumental-decorative and applied art, so to speak, between mosaic and artistic embroidery, however, on the horizontal, it is very close to women’s handicrafts. At the same time, it is not true that primarily women work with batik. Korzhenko is a vivid example of this.
“Batiks made by Lviv artist from Kyiv Korzhenko are always sensuous, well-balanced in colors, with blurred outline, but always create well defined shape. New exhibition of graphic works of the artist, of course, demonstrates his ‘batik’ nature. And it is wonderful. It is amazing that the artist works in various genres of art in such consistent and recognizable style of his own,” said art historian Olha ZAVHORODNIA.
Vadym KORZHENKO, in his turn, noted: “My coloristic abstractions, where I am trying to create certain emotional state and convey the state of my soul, initially have architectural and environmental approach. I think in terms of interior and immediately create art works for an imaginary space. Frankness, provocativeness, and uniqueness are most important for me in art.”
The artist is constantly experimenting with techniques, materials, topics, but always prefers abstract art. Expressiveness, sensuality, and emotion – these are the traits that characterize the artist’s work from the very beginning.
Exhibition “Color Accents” took place in art gallery “Lavra” in Kyiv. The artist is always pleased to have visitors in his creative studio on Andriivsky Uzviz 18.
