“The Day exemplifies intellectual aesthetics”

Many visitors came to the opening of the 16th Inter­na­tional Den’s Photo Exhibition with bouquets of flowers, but one of them was special. First deputy di­rector of the Institute of World Po­litics Serhii Solodky presented our editor-in-chief Larysa Ivshyna with a bouquet made... from pages of Den!

“The bouquet was made by my colleague, the head of the Hlavkom press center Natalia Malinovska,” Solodky told The Day. “We exchange views on Den’s contributions daily. One morning, I saw this bouquet on her table. It was a few weeks before the opening of the 16th Internatio­nal Den’s Photo Exhibition. I asked her permission to present these beautiful flowers to Larysa Ivshyna and Den on her behalf, and Malinovska gladly agreed. As for myself, I believe that Den exemplifies intellectual aesthetics, while this bouquet is a materialization of this intellectual aesthetics.”

Den discussed the idea behind the product with its author. “I am a big fan of your newspaper, buy and read it daily. Accordingly, I have accumulated a considerable archive,” Malinovska said. “Since I like to make something with my own hands, I resolved to make a bouquet as a gift to my favorite newspaper. I am pleased that a part of me will be at Den’s editorial office from now on. Regretfully, intellect today is not only endangered, but even maligned by many. I now see Den as the only newspaper that encourages intellectual quest. As the head of the press center which constantly monitors the media space, I sit with a pencil in hand over every issue of this newspaper and make clippings, because it is the only source of quality journalism for me.”

We saw wonderful flowers made from newspaper pages before. Let us recall that activists made paper flowers from Den’s front pages as well as those of other international and progressive Russian publications, and brought them to the office of Novaya Gazeta in Moscow on Anna Politkovskaya Memorial Day, when they held the “Flowers for Anna” event.
