Den’/The Day announces its annual photo contest Photo Day’ 03

Den’/The Day staged its first photo contest in 1999 and it has since turned it into a nationwide event. The contest allows amateur and professional pho tographers from different regions to make a name for themselves. The Editors are happy to announce the beginning of yet another annual contest. Everyone is welcome to submit photos. The terms and conditions remain the same: (1) amateurs and professionals are eligible; (2) black-and-white and color pho tos (at least 30 x 40 cm each and a 10 x 15 or 13 x 18 cm control photo for possible publication); (3) every photo must be complete with a caption, pho tographer’s name, taxpayer’s ID, home address, phone number, and please specify the shooting site and date. All photos submitted are not reviewed or returned. The Editors also reserve the right to use any such photos as news paper illustrations, provided always the author is acknowledged and paid a royalty. This year’s topics are as follows: (1) Event, (2) Personality, (3) The World Around Us, (4) Extreme Sports, and (5) Humor.

Last year’s 4th International Photo Contest, New Day. Light and Shadow, numbered 75 participants submitting a total of more than 300 photos. The grand prize was a UAH 5,000 deposit agreement with NRB Ukraine. The prize went to Yevhen Kravs from Lviv and his photo, Ostap Khmil, Sknyliv taken during that year’s air show tragedy. Numerous professional photographers from other periodicals and news agencies also join this photo contest. Thanks to the project sponsors, prizewinners have visited different places in Europe: Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Budapest, and undergone resort treatment at Truskavets. Also, last year all winners were presented with mobile phones and Ace & Base start packages, courtesy of Kyivstar GSM. There have been fifty-nine prize winners over the past four years of the photo contest.

Among those winning the grand prix were Serhiy Hlabanchuk (Zhytomyr, 1999) for his Step into Business , Oleksandr Svystunov (Vinnytsia oblast, 2000) for his Lionka Politics , and Mykola Lazarenko (Kyiv, 2001) for his A Grade .

The Editors select the best photos for an exhibit accompanying the newspaper’s anniversary festivities. This exhibit begins in Lviv and travels to other Ukrainian cities (Sumy, Nizhyn, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lutsk, Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Poltava, Chernihiv, Ternopil, Truskavets, Odesa, Uzhgorod, Chernivtsi, Khmelnytsky, Kirovohrad, Cherkasy). Since March 1, the photo exhibit is displayed at Donetsk’s local history museum. This photo contest is the newspaper’s call ing card and a most prestigious event in Ukraine.

This year’s winners will receive prizes courtesy of Christopher Columbus Travel, National Artists’ Union of Ukraine, Institute of Contemporary Art Studies, our invariable partner, private limited company Truskavetskurort, and Volyn regional resort Turya. As usual, there will be a special prize from Channel 1+1 (a television and video cassette player). All prizewinners will receive mobile phones with Kyivstar GSM packages.
