Graphic Lviv

An exhibit, “Graphic Lviv,” has been opened at the Lviv Museum of the History of Religion as part of the International Graphic Art Forum “Leopolis-2016.” The displayed graphic works focus on Lviv’s architecture and are dedicated to the 760th anniversary of the City of Lion.

Talented graphic artists, who have lived in this city in various times, expressed their striking and uncommon views of Lviv and its legends in their works which are part of the museum’s collection being displayed now. Their themes are very diverse: ancient mythological and biblical scenes, architectural landscapes, pictures of Orthodox and Catholic churches and cathedrals, and portraits of political figures. Of particular interest are engravings by the 19th-century artists who lived in the city and worked at the lithography studio of Petro Piller, an Austrian-born Lviv publisher. The graphic art of the early- and mid-20th century is mostly represented by Lviv school artists.

The exhibit’s oldest work is “Dominican Cathedral” by Karel Auer dated 1834-44, and the most contemporary one is “Prince Danylo of Galicia” which the artist Liudmyla Loboda created in 1991.
