We held another event of our campaign “Warm Postcard + Warm Garment” at the Ukrainian House on December 12, just as it hosted the 5th Book Contracts Kyiv International Book Exhibition. We were able to gather about two dozen postcards and a lot of warm clothes from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Our drive’s participants included our concerned readers as well as other visitors to the exhibition. Schoolgirls Khrystyna and Ania learned about the event via social networks and brought warm pants, sweaters, and socks for our lads at the front.

“I plan to become a journalist,” Khrystyna told us, “so I am a frequent reader of The Day’s news section. Having read that you would hold this drive, I decided to join it. My grandmother knitted a pair of socks for me, and I decided that our boys needed them more. Moreover, helping the army is our duty. I understand that my father may be sent to the warzone at any moment, so I  try to do my best to support our soldiers.”

In addition to bringing warm clothing, the girls threw five letters in the postcard box, enclosed in cute winter-themed envelopes, thus adding warm words to warm clothing.

Member of Shevchenko National University of Kyiv’s Student Guard Liudmyla often does unpaid work for public good. This time, she brought not only her own postcard to be sent on to the frontlines, but also several letters from students who participated in a charity fair they initiated recently.

During the drive, we witnessed another pleasant event. Den’s project Ukraine Incognita. TOP 25 was recognized as the Best Book of Ukraine by the State Committee for Television and Radio. The book won in the “My Country” category as one of the most relevant publications on offer, the committee’s exhibition department chief Tetiana Demchenko told us.

“We have noticed this book because it is truly unique. It contains a lot of interesting material about the history of Ukraine and the reality in which we live. The relevance of this book is especially obvious now that our country is going through a turning point in its history. We should pay attention to those factors which demonstrate the unity of our country, its beauty and wealth. We are therefore very pleased to see Den, led by Larysa Ivshyna, succeeding with this important project. We have also noticed that the book was published in three languages, making it accessible to more people,” Demchenko said.
