An exposition presented at the Lviv National Art Gallery is a part of the project “European Pastel Festival, 6th International Pastel Biennial – Nowy Sacz 2013” and is organized by the international relations department at the Lviv National Academy of Arts.

Exhibition curator Ivanna NOVAKIVSKA told The Day that it is the third time Lviv dwellers have had an opportunity to see the works of the International Pastel Biennial. Works from previous events were displayed at the Lviv Palace of Arts in 2008 and the Museum of Ethnography and Art Crafts in 2010.

“There are over 250 works in this year’s exhibition, created by the 233 participants from 29 countries: the Netherlands, Germany, Serbia, Croatia, Israel, Denmark, Spain, the United States, Canada, Slovakia, Romania, France, Colombia, India, Turkey, Belarus, Montenegro, Hungary, Bulgaria, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Russia, England, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, and Ukraine,” says Novakivska. “The presented works are very diverse in themes, moods, styles, and national pastel schools. That is why it was hard to arrange the pieces, but I think our display artists coped with the task very well by arranging the exhibits in the gallery’s two large enfilades.”

Ivanna NOVAKIVSKA: “In this exhibition we want to show that Europe is very close to us. It is cooperation on a daily basis. Ukraine is a large European country that has real, and not just virtual, cooperation with a lot of countries. We understand that high attendance is not to be expected, because a lot of people are physically not present in Lviv, they are at Maidan in Kyiv. But the faculty and students of the Lviv Academy of Arts, museum workers, and of course, artists are very much interested in the exhibition.”

I  am sure that each visitor was able to find something to their liking, because we have still lifes, landscapes, and philosophical compositions on display.”

RUZA SCHULZ, WAITING

The exhibition will be open until February 10 at 3, Stefanyk Street. After that the celebration of the 107th anniversary of the Lviv National Art Gallery foundation is scheduled, which will consist of a number of events, including a large exhibition from the gallery’s funds, and also a conference of the International Council of Museums. So hurry up to see the pastel biennial!
