The festival was dedicated to the 62th birth anniversary of the famous pop singer. It brought together musical ensembles and soloists, both professional and amateur, with repertoires including works by contemporary Ukrainian composers as well as songs once sung by Yaremchuk. The popular singer died at 43 (he was born on November 30, 1951 and died on June 30, 1995), but he had managed to become a legend of the national pop music in the short time he had.

Yaremchuk’s family, friends, colleagues, and fans gathered at his tomb in the Central Cemetery of Chernivtsi at 12 p.m. on November 30, his birthday, to honor the singer’s memory...

Let us recall that Yaremchuk brought worldwide fame to such songs as “Chervona Ruta” (Red Rue), “Fountain,” “Fir Cottage,” “The Pleiades,” “Forest, Green Forest,” “Family,” “I Will Go to the Distant Mountains,” “The Song Will Be among Us,” “Easter Egg,” “Hey, Cossacks,” and “I Have Something To Tell You Still.” Poet Andrii Demydenko wrote of Yaremchuk in his memoirs: “He sang so strong that he had throat calluses. He sang so that his voice acquired wings!” His songs have entered the treasury of Ukrainian pop music and, moreover, remain popular today.

This year, Lviv will remember the singer and sing his songs, too. On December 10, Lviv Krushelnytska Theater of Opera and Ballet will host the Yaremchuk Songs evening, to be attended by his sons Dmytro and Nazar and daughter Maria as well as People’s Artists of Ukraine Lilia Sandulesa, Viktor Pavlik, Ivo Bobul, Pavlo Dvorsky and his son Viacheslav, Oleksandr and Sofia Zlotnyk, Matias, Mila Nitich, etc.
