The aim of the event is to demonstrate one of the brightest elements of cultural heritage and tradition of Ukraine – the Kosiv painted ceramics (originating from the city of Kosiv, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast), which is proposed for inclusion into the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The exhibition presents the best artwork from museum collections, including the one of the Kosiv Applied and Decorative Arts Institute of Lviv National Academy of Arts; there are also creative works by students and teachers of the Institute.

The artwork by Maria Hryniuk, Vlentyna Dzhuraniuk, Ivanna Dileta-Kozak, Orest and Mykhailo Chorny and many others will definitely leave the viewers impressed. The display also features the clay fantasies of young Nastia Slava, who is only six years old! Each plaque by the little master is unique – every one of them is the emotion of a little girl who had just stepped on the path of great art.

Kosiv ceramics includes narrative compositions, humorous stories, sketches on people’s worldview and philosophy. All of this is displayed on tiles, bowls, jugs, and candlesticks. Many works feature plant and animal motives. The peculiarity of this type of art is a unique tricolor, combining brown, green, and yellow on a white background. Hutsuls believe that it symbolizes fertile land with towering forests and waving rye.

For those who want to discover the tradition of the Kosiv painted ceramics, there is the “Hutsul Workshop” (for adults) and the “School of Carpathian masters” (for children) – the places where one can learn making ceramic dishes and whistles, as well as painting and engraving on them.

The event also hosts a charity leaflet sale in order to raise funds on social projects of “Kyiv Pechersk Lavra” Fund (which helps develop the creative side of children and youth from different social categories).

The exhibition will take place through July 2.
