Repairs at Olha Kobylianska museums in Bukovyna will not be completed in time for the anniversary!

The Day covered before the situation around priority measures needed to prepare for the 150th birth anniversary of Kobylianska, that is, repairs and restoration of furniture at the Literary Memorial Museum in Chernivtsi and repairs at the Kobylianska House Museum in Dymka village, Hlyboka raion. Authorities assured the public in September that all repairs at the Kobylianska Museum in Chernivtsi would be completed by November 22. On November 21, with less than a week to go before the anniversary celebrations to be held on November 27, deputy head of the Chernivtsi Oblast State Administration’s Culture Department Tetiana Sharahova said: “The regional budget allocated 279,000 hryvnias for cultural functions to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Kobylianska and repair the Literary Memorial Museum. These funds paid for external repairs of the structure, and we have had the museum’s entrance gate restored and an independent heating system installed. This will ensure the proper preservation of exhibits. Currently, we are working to arrange the museum’s literary exhibits, but there is not enough time left until the anniversary to restore the furniture pieces there, as an assessment of the museum’s memorabilia collection will be conducted as late as December 3, and we will restore individual items following its findings... Part of the regional funding will also pay for a series of cultural actions. As for the Kobylianska House Museum in Dymka village, Hlyboka raion, it is still in disrepair, too. We have received expert statement to the effect that the house museum itself is beyond repair,” Sharahova explained. “To restore it to its proper appearance, we need 700,000 hryvnias. We have already procured design estimates and resolved to put some memorabilia in safe storage until our funding situation improves.”
