In cooperation with Consul General of the Slovak Republic in Uzhhorod Janka Burianova, the Zakarpattia Museum of Folk Architecture and Life inaugurated exhibition of art works by prominent Slovak photographer Alexander Jirousek, symbolically called “From the Tatras to the Danube.”

Photo exhibition of the master of light and shadow, known not only in Slovakia, but also in other European countries, reveals to museum visitors the neighboring country with its nature, so similar to Zakarpattia, as well as its well-kept cozy cities and tidy towns. Many people can find there places they visited while traveling across Slovakia: St. Elisabeth Cathedral in Kosice, Market Square in Bardejov, Spissky Hrad, Skalnate Pleso, Lomnicky Peak, and sky-high trails in the Tatras, wooden churches in mountain villages, well-groomed fields near Trebisov, enchanting corners of ancient Bratislava on the banks of the old Danube, and find new, as yet unexplored places that need to be visited.

Slovakia’s Consul General in Uzhhorod Burianova noted the importance of the event for strengthening good neighbor relations between the two friendly nations, and, while introducing the photographer, congratulated him on his birthday, as Jirousek turns 80 in 2014. Therefore, the artist has something to show and surprises to offer, even for the most demanding connoisseur of art photography. People’s Artist of Ukraine Volodymyr Mykyta, who has been friends with Jirousek and kept in touch with him for many decades, said a few kind words of his own.

This exhibition is the first in a series of cultural events to mark the 25th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in Slovakia, which will be held in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in Uzhhorod.
