Hrushevsky to Have Fifty Hryvnias And Fifty Volumes

For the first time the most complete collection of the works (fifty volumes) by Mykhailo Hrushevsky – Ukraine’s great historian, literary critic, cultural figure, and statesman acclaimed for his role in the national revival – is expected to appear, compiled by scholars from the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Ukrainian Archaeography and Source Evaluation named for the outstanding scholar. The project is to be accomplished on the strength of a presidential order launching a national program of socially significant publications. This collection was ordered from Lviv’s Svit Publishers by the State Committee on Information Policy, Television, and Radio. The first volume appeared in print on the eve of Independence Day and another two will be published by the end of the year. In 2003, the number is to reach five or six volumes. The collection consists of ten series kept in the same format.

The press run is 7,000, and copies will be forwarded to libraries and other research and cultural-educational centers. Additional copies will be published as commissioned by legal and natural persons. Subscription is available as per catalogue available at all post offices. Each volume is expected to contain 500 pages and will sell at some UAH 28.00 plus discount postal delivery charges.

The project starts with a compilation of works never reprinted in the past decade and included into two principal series: Historical Articles and Surveys along with Sociopolitical Works. Phase one consists of archival documents and materials entered in the series, Diaries and Memoirs and Epistolary Heritage. Parallel to this, several other series, Reviews and Observations, Works of Fiction and Criticism, and an Ancillary Archival Series are being prepared for publication.. Phase two features Hrushevsky’s monumental History of Ukraine-Rus’, History of Ukrainian Literature, Sketches on the History of the Ukrainian People, Sketches on the History of the Land of Rus’ from the Death of Yaroslav I to the Mid — Fourteenth Century, Barske Sarostvo, Illustrated History of Ukraine, World History, Cultural National Movement in the Mid- Sixteenth and Early Seventeenth Centuries, From the History of Religious Thought, and more.
