Sofia Gubaidulina came to Ukraine

An event, which deserved a greater attention of the mass media than actually received, took place last week. An outstanding contemporary composer Sofia Gubaidulina arrived in Ukraine.

Gubaidulina visited Ukraine as a guest of the festival of European music “Contrasts.” Lviv was the first city to welcome the great composer.

There was held a concert where the music play The Lyre of Orpheus and concerto for bayan Fachwerk were played. In Kyiv at the National Music Academy Gubaidulina was awarded the title of honorary professor.

Later the ensemble “Kyiv Soloists” performed one of the most famous music works of Gubaidulina Seven Words.

The Day was the only one of the local media who was lucky enough to get a lengthy exclusive interview with the composer.
