1919: The Radnarkom of the Ukrainian SSR adopts a decree transferring the property of all monasteries, convents, churches, and other religious organizations to the People’s Commissariat [Ministry] of Social Protection.

1924: Sich Ukrainian Publishers is founded in Prague.

1934: The first issue of the Ukrainian newspaper Nash klych comes off the presses in Argentina.

1935: The Special Board of the NKVD in Moscow sentences Yurii Kotsiubynsky to five years of exile in western Siberia, in retaliation for his involvement in a “Trotskyite counterrevolutionary organization.”

1936: Lwow (now Lviv) hosts an Antifascist Cultural Congress.

1970: Ukraine’s largest Palace of Culture ‘Ukraine’ is launched in Kyiv (currently known as the Ukraine National Palace).

1990: The founding meeting of the Majoronis Lithuanian Cultural Society is held in Kyiv.

1997: Ukraine’s first Antarctic expedition is accomplished.
