1894: The Ukrainian National Association is established as the first central Ukrainian-American institution.
1943: The State Defense Committee of the USSR adopts a decree on the renovation of Donbas mines.
1945: The Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR resolves to start building the Kyiv Metro, with the first section to become operational in November 1960.
1966: The Soviet Union launches Kosmos 110 in orbit, with two dogs, Veterok and Ugolyok, on board.
1994: A Ukrainian diplomatic mission is officially opened in the Republic of Cuba.
1997: President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma signs a decree instituting a Political Council under the President’s aegis.
1998: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine nullifies the capital punishment clauses in the Criminal, Criminal Procedure, and Correctional Code — one of Ukraine’s obligations for admission to the Council of Europe.
