More Ukrainians Consider Moving to US

Over the past four years the number of Ukrainian citizens who legally emigrated to the USA has almost doubled, reads a US Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) report. In part, in the period from 1998 through 2001 a total of 54,356 legal Ukrainian immigrants set foot on the American turf. Over the same period, the number of Ukrainians settling in the US rose from 1.1% to 2% of the total influx of immigrants. Ukraine ranks 12th according to the number of citizens who legally entered the US during this period. Russia ranks 14th with 61,399 arrivals. The list is topped by Mexico, India, the Philippines, and Vietnam. According to Interfax-Ukraine, the total number of immigrants includes recent arrivals who received entry visas abroad through the US State Department and persons residing in the US who received permanent residence permits after applying to the INS for a change of their immigrant status.
